Believe it or not, this is a feel-good book. Sherri Bridges Fox has written a tribute to her son Casey that is at once a narrative of a mother’s love, a spiritual journey and a testament to the resilience of family and the human spirit.

Casey Fox died at the age of 17, victim of an unintentional overdose of pain pills. This particular scenario is one which has become all too frequent in recent years and will touch the resonant hearts of others who have been similarly afflicted.

Casey’s journey was fraught with seeming obstacles, including physical trauma and major difficulties in school. I say ‘fraught’ because his mother, Sherri Bridges Fox, succeeds admirably in placing adversity, including poverty, illness, and death, in perspective as potential growth and learning experiences.

Almost every sentence touches the reader to the quick. Almost every sentence is authentic, honest, and moving. Fox also writes about the lives and deaths of her elderly mother and father, in tender and loving passages equally informed by the long view and meaning of their full lives.

The author is able to find meaning in the most tragic of circumstances – in this case, the premature passing of a child. The reader accompanies her on a journey which includes maddening grief, unanswered questions, and outrage -and emerges on the far side of this with a transformed, transcendent view of life and death that is both restorative and refreshing.

The author presents evidence, mostly from the realm of intuition and feeling, that separation, loss and death may be illusory. The message of this book will surely be welcome to those who have been touched by the loss of a loved one.

I Will See You Again is only part of the author’s rebound to life. Sherri Fox shares her wisdom with others in other ways as well. Fox goes on to become a Reiki instructor and grief workshop leader. Her love of the natural world shines through in her descriptions of the farm life surrounding her. The affirmations included in the book are piquant offerings of her generous spirit and world view. This book is a welcome remedy for cynicism and despair.
