As mere human beings, we tend to make everything around us a challenging experience, far more than we ought to. If we take more time to focus on what is most important in terms of our faith and belief, life could be a pleasant surprise. Unfortunately, we are all hard-headed, which also means we are to blame for things not working in our favor. Maybe one day we will come to terms with the understanding that we are to follow instructions properly versus doing our own thing.
In It’s Not Complicated!: Love, Bless, Do Good and Pray, author Ramona Jackson-Woods mentions various examples of how life, love, prayer, and more are not as complicated as many people make them out to be. The Bible was created for us to guide and instruct us on how to conduct ourselves in our lives. Many, if not all of us, are falling short when it comes to listening to God’s instructions. When we follow our understanding instead of simply understanding God, we create confusion and complications. The decisions we make do not only affect us but also our children. We were placed in this world to live a life on a mission to share the Word of God and ensure our position with our Father when life is over. Instead of remaining on a straight and narrow path, we have taken other routes, backroads, and shortcuts. It resulted in our journey being too overwhelming and not knowing how to navigate through life efficiently. Ramona brings up an interesting point about the astigmatic characteristics of our vision of life. It can trickle down to other areas and people when the focus is to develop ourselves into better individuals. The imagery of using a stigma for how our overall judgment is clouded, says a lot about people and what they are dealing with.
Delaying our development becomes a hindrance when we are to be faithful servants of God and of assistance to others. Learning the scientific fact that holding anger physically disrupts your health. This proven fact encourages people to take resolving anger issues more seriously because developing health ailments is not good. Forgiveness and healing are important, as everyone is too distracted with other concerns in their life. By forgiving, you clear the traffic of negative energies and continue speaking and inviting positive energy into your life. We must accept the possibility of not doing right by God and whatever occurs in our lives is an active result of being stubborn. Relationships between man and woman must follow the instructions given by God for a successful marriage. As the husband is the head and leader of the marriage, the wife should follow her husband. Of course, most women believe that not only do they have autonomy, but their husbands should not have control over them. If the husband understands his assignment to not be in control of his wife, following God’s way is not complicated. We have all fallen from grace and the only way to redeem ourselves is to repent and ask in prayer for guidance on how to do better.
One great point the author makes is men and women making jokes and insulting each other instead of building each other up. Words are powerful and can warrant good or bad results in one’s life, so we must be careful about what we speak of other people’s lives. Amongst the ability to heal, we must understand that transparency and vulnerability are key. Living life behind a facade or a mask does not help anyone but causes more harm. Having difficult conversations would be an initial step to understanding your partner better and striving to resolve issues to move forward more healthily. Men and women are the same, which means when we cause harm or stress to someone, we are also inflicting that pain on ourselves. Instead of viewing everyone around you as competition, opt to work together to accomplish greater goals. The talk of narcissism came up and the timing could not have been better. In today’s world, there is more self-centeredness than ever before. It is believed our enemy is to blame, yet many need to take accountability for their actions and lack of selfishness. When it comes to decision-making and who you let in your life, you must do so with caution because not everyone is operating under God’s instruction. It is mentioned that women need security while men need appreciation and attention, but they both are like that of children. Since children require security and attention to grow, the correlation between the two makes sense.
Reading this book has shed some interesting light on the subject matter of being an individual, building relationships, and moving closer to God. I would recommend everyone to consider reading this book as it would bring you to a better understanding of yourself, the reason behind serving God, and how to connect effectively with others.
It’s Not Complicated! Love, Bless, Do Good and Pray serves as an uplifting read for those yearning to enrich their lives with compassion and spiritual growth. Highly recommended for readers at all stages of their faith walk.
