J. Thomas Whetstone divided his book into four parts in which he focused on different aspects of leadership. The author explains in detail what leadership entails and what everyone who is in governance should focus on. The text in the book is not only useful for people who are in leadership positions but also anyone who aspires to be in management on whichever level. I liked the introduction part of the book as the author starts by defining what is required of a good leader. J. Thomas Whetstone writes how a great leader should aim to grow, be committed to their cause, be ethical, and aspire to progress with others.
Spirituality is essential for any leader with principles. The author wrote widely about spiritual values, addressing subjects like Christianity, world leadership, and religion’s role to people that have positions of power. Leadership, Ethics and Spirituality – A Christian Perspective is an important book in today’s world considering how people who are in control do the barest minimum when in power. Reading this book will open your mind and expose you to the hidden truths and moral decline we observe in some of our leaders. You will see how many leaders refuse to take responsibility when they mess up and instead ignore the plight of those they are supposed to lead.
J. Thomas Whetstone wrote about many shortcomings today’s leaders have. All flaws mentioned in the book could be avoided if those in power took the time to listen to their subjects. It would make sense if leaders viewed things from a Christian perspective. Christianity would enable them to see their failures and make amends even when they are sitting at the top. We learn how pride, greed, and dishonesty can be destructive. I enjoyed reading ‘Leadership, Ethics, and Spirituality – A Christian Perspective’ as the author was objective in his text. The writing is not biased and one can read all the good sense in what J. Thomas Whetstone wrote about.
The inclusion of Bible verses when expounding on topics was a great addition as it enables one to relate to God’s word. The author used figures in history to explain certain issues and made a point. I enjoyed reading about the teachings of John Calvin, the great leader of the Reformation was an exceptional man whose wise teachings drew the masses closer to God and helped believers grow their faith. The comparisons between the teachings of Martin Luther and John Calvin were among my most favorite parts of the book. The leadership the men displayed is to be admired.
The analysis in the book is sober and lessons to be learned immense. All you need to do to be a good Christian leader is read this book and follow the knowledge shared by the author. There are plenty of historical examples in the chapters where one can learn past events. This book is also a great material to help you read your Bible more often. J. Thomas Whetstone is a fantastic author whose content is life-changing.
