Bill Gates once said, “It’s fine to celebrate success but it is more important to heed the lessons of failure.” Lessons are a daily occurrence that one must learn from and pay attention to in order to fully grow and evolve as a human being. In author Eric Wei’s collection of short stories titled Lessons From Tales: What We Can Learn From Short Stories And Jokes, readers are presented a series of short stories, jokes and fables which are used to illustrate life’s lessons.

In this book, the author does a great job of collecting various stories to illustrate the lessons life has to teach us. From not being envious of those who’s stories we don’t fully know to the power of sincerity in life and so much more, the author takes readers on a journey to understand the world and the knowledge waiting to be learned.

This is a fantastic concept and structure to bring a series of life lessons into a short and condensed read. Collecting these stories based around a series of themes such as ingenuity, these easy yet impactful narratives help the reader to take a new approach to the need to understand the simple yet important knowledge waiting to be discovered by people as a whole.

This is the perfect read for anyone who enjoys short stories, memorable jokes and creative storytelling imparting everyday life lessons overall. As a fan of this form of storytelling, it was easy to get lost in these tales and immerse myself without having to commit to too long of a time period, with each story being pretty concise and told well. One example that was fun to delve into was the story, “A Worm In The Apple,” in which one person exclaims their bad luck finding a worm in an apple, while the other cautions that it was better than finding half a worm. This story illustrates how things can always be worse, and we should appreciate the things we do in life rather than focus on the things we do not. This is a perfect illustration of the knowledge waiting to be absorbed throughout this book.

Overall, this was a fun, fast-paced and easy book that did a marvelous job of imparting the lessons that readers are meant to infer from here. The way the author sets the book up allows readers to read the narratives, get the knowledge meant to be obtained and move on relatively easy. A great concept for the modern-day reader, this is not one to be missed, so be sure to grab your copy today!
