Hands down, my favorite genre to read when I simply want to relax and immerse myself in another world is Romance. Specifically, a light-hearted and even humorous tale that doesn’t rely on constant angst to tell its story to the masses. Lucky for me, that is precisely what I dove headfirst into when I began to read Life Rolls Along, the sequel to Because I’m Worth It, by author Linda Nielsen. This was an entertaining and funny story full of eccentric characters — and the antics they get up to — in this endearing romantic comedy you are sure to fall in love with.
The story begins with Skye Topple, a man who is in the midst of repairing the broken pieces of his life while embracing the new adventure he finds himself on. But just as he is seeing the positives coming back into his world, he is hit with another obstacle. The son of his business partner seems to have a keen interest in his wife, which surely doesn’t sit well with Skye and only leads him to make decisions that can either make or break him. Yet, he is willing to do whatever it takes to get what he wants in the end. As you see the Covington family’s meteoric rise in the real estate industry continue, the true ploy will come to light.
While there are plenty of dramatic scenarios throughout this novel, we also can’t help but laugh at the absurd moments intertwining these characters with one another as they navigate life and what it throws at them. As much as you may find yourself amused and enthralled by the story, you will also have many moments of warmth and gentleness you will surely expect from a true romantic comedy. Nielsen has a way of bringing a light-hearted nature and simplicity to tense situations while treating them with the respect they deserve. She is incredible at making you feel as though you are friends with these characters which is why you are so invested in how their story will turn out.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the fact it has satire pointed at the posh part of society in an inoffensive yet on-the-nose way. I found myself immersed amongst the southern belles and those who are well-off in this exciting and fun world she created that seamlessly shows being rich is not the be-all, or end-all of the world. This is one you will surely devour over a weekend of relaxation so run, don’t walk, and get your copy of Life Rolls Along by Linda Nielsen today!
