As the parent of two adult children, one of the fondest memories I have is reading to them before bed. It’s about more than just the education you can pass along to them, reading to your child before bed is about bonding and sharing moments which last a lifetime. It is clear that author and artist T. Steele Petry has honed in on that shared experience in the “Little Book” series. In Little Eliza At The Dinosaur Exhibit we take an educational and colorful journey into the land of the dinosaurs.
This title encompasses everything a good children’s book should. The main focus is on Eliza, a little girl who spends the day at the dinosaur exhibit with her parents. She is both curious about and afraid of certain dinosaurs at the exhibit, but clearly her curiosity overcomes any fears she may have and she moves throughout the day in whimsy and wonder. Along the way the reader also learns a thing or two about these incredible creatures as well. It is very apparent that the author has the intention of not only entertaining with his story, but also sets out to educate through detailed facts about each dinosaur put to page.
The added bonus to this delightful book are the illustrations of each dinosaur discussed throughout. Author T. Steele Petry is talented not only writing in this title, but uses love of painting as well to create some truly beautiful illustrations of dinosaurs to add to his story, and they serve this title well. The author uses facts about each dinosaur combined with artistry and the curiosity of the main character to keep the reader fully invested in wanting to learn more. It works beautifully, and as an adult I was just as enthralled as I’d imagine a child would be, and felt myself looking forward to every fact and illustration along the way.
Author T. Steele Petry is a retired family physician who spent his more than 35-year career caring for people of all ages. I can only imagine what a caring physician he was judging by the way he writes and paints in Little Eliza At The Dinosaur Exhibit. In a world filled with an abundance of online culture, it is very refreshing to see authors like this still creating entertaining and educational children’s books that can captivate its audience. This title is only one in a series of books – so be sure to add this to your library and seek out the rest of the books in the series. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.
