Book Review

A mixture of paranormal concepts and those concepts that we all believe in, such as the power of curiosity and friendship, line the pages of this book that keeps readers glued to the edge of their seats. With all the twists and turns and the revelations, it is hard to not just sit and read the novel from cover to cover all at once.

Kris Sedersten’s Lost Mojo follows six teenagers, who are already navigating the often treacherous roads of being a teenager, as they get drawn into an unexpected realm of evil and paranormal activity. The mystery of the unexplained disappearance of two friends that is eventually linked to other disappearances in the past is intertwined with a school documentary project on ghost hunting that turns out to be much more than the students could have ever imagined.

There is an evil in this small town that has lurked for decades, roaring its ugly head with the murder of a kind and loving aunt and the disappearances of young girls. The legend of the Winghead ghost was always a rumor in this town but few ever imagined the real evil that was behind the myth. Ghosts who cannot move on, satanical rituals and urban legends illustrate the fight between good and evil.

As the reader, just when you think you have figured out the mystery contained in Lost Mojo, another wrinkle is thrown into the mix. Often, when you know just a little bit more than what the characters do, you want to warn them of the evil they are getting themselves involved with. The ability for a writer to bring such emotions and feeling with words is truly a gift.

In this war against good and evil, at times it’s hard to judge which characters you can trust. In part, that is why this book is so cleverly written. Just when you think you have gotten to a stopping point, you realize that you have to know what happens next. You read the book awaiting an explanation, and you are not disappointed in the end. The story ends letting you know that fight between good and evil still exists and will rise again.

I don’t typically read paranormal fiction, but this well written story was intriguing and opened my eyes to a whole new genre. Finding out this is part of a series; I am interested in seeing the other books in the series are about.
