Britain has finally withdrawn from India. Rumors are rising of a young boy who can perform miracles of healing. The rumors of the boy messiah have reached a predominate London newspaper, and Arthur Green is the lucky reporter who gets to investigate their validity. What he finds is much more; he falls into a world of lies, betrayal, and even a little romance. He thinks he witnessed a miracle, but is unsure if he has really seen it or if he simply wanted to believe he did. He soon discovers men who are intent on using the boy to their own selfish desires. People are beginning to flock to the child and the Arthur finds himself needing to decide if he takes a leap of faith into becoming a believer, or if he simply walks away.
Messiah, by author Martyn James Pummell, was a very entertaining novel to read, one which kept me in suspense and guessing. There are twists around every corner and it is difficult to determine what will happen next. Pummell has the sheer talent to drag his readers into his world and hold them captive until the very end. Readers will find themselves shaking with anticipation as they delve deeper into a story of mystery, deceit and danger. There is no doubt time flies while you are reading this book, and you could easily lose track of responsibilities finding Messiah totally impossible to put down. Pummell ropes his readers in from the very beginning with an engaging start and keeps them enthralled until they reach a satisfying end.
The characters are interesting and engaging as readers will feel the desire to want to pilgrimage to see this acclaimed miracle maker, or work alongside Arthur Green as he investigates the story. Readers will feel compelled to want to put themselves into the story, to be able to experience it alongside the individuals within this tale. There is always the question of what makes a good writer, or what makes a great book, and this is it. The ability to make the readers crave more, to feel one with the people the author has created, marks the class of a master writer. Pummell knows exactly what it takes to bring his readers back to his novels and demanding more from him. It’s hard to not want more.
There are a lot of things happening in this book which will keep the reader from getting any sleep. There are many other books with the same idea, but they are not executed with the expertise and flawless writing style of Messiah. This novel is in a league of its own and honestly cannot be compared to any other book I know of within this genre. It is a great book for anyone who is looking for a summer beach reading book, find a nook somewhere and disappear or to curl on the couch and lose a rainy afternoon. It is highly recommended and readers will not be disappointed in picking this novel up and adding it to their library. As for a rating, a happy and excited STAR – Enjoy!
