“Darkness falls early in Boston during the winter months.” These words are the driving force behind author Winnie Ace’s novel Missy. A Christian romance novel, the story showcases the evolution of protagonist Missy Eldridge. Determined to become a successful businesswoman, Missy learns through a painful process what she truly wants out of life, and must undergo a dark period in her life to attain it.
The story focuses on the Christian belief system in classic and traditional gender roles in a marriage. In a world which sees more and more liberal and non-traditional lifestyles being accepted by the majority of society, the author’s message in this book reaches into the past and shows readers what religious beliefs teach those who follow them what a man and woman’s role in the world is. This is definitely a story meant for anyone who is religious, more on the conservative side and believes in traditional gender roles. For anyone who finds themselves in a more conservative role in their life, this is the perfect romance novel for you.
At times throughout the novel, the dialogue between the characters came across as forced, as if they didn’t know how to communicate with one another. Otherwise the story itself was well written, evenly paced and the author did a great job of bringing the overall theme into the plot in a natural way.
Overall this is the perfect religious romance novel. It captures the blend of marriage, love and religion in a completely natural way. For anyone who doesn’t drift towards more modern outlooks on life or prefers to read novels that tie into their own belief systems, then author Winnie Ace’s novel Missy is the book for you. This will make a great Christmas present or just a solid foundation book for those embarking on the sacrament of marriage.
