Marian Prentice Huntington’s book will help every child boost their self-esteem and gain confidence.’ Do You Know a Child Who Sits Alone?’ reads the first sentence of the first chapter. The author writes that everyone, not just children, are vulnerable in some way. Our vulnerability makes us need support and reliance on others to feel safe and happy. Reading this book reveals how passionate Marian is about the welfare of children. She writes in a tone which suggests that she cares about the mental and physical health of both children and adults. Marian shows how important sports are, and why children should be encouraged to join sports and be active in games. I like how brief she was with her points. The author also writes about the role of mentors in the society. Being a mentor herself, Marian encourages mentorship in communities. Marian makes mentorship seem so easy and enjoyable. I enjoyed the story she gave when she was looking for mentors.
Martial arts are among the sports which the author noted as valuable. ‘Martial arts exercise our minds and emotions because it’s impossible to practice without perceiving, analyzing, connecting, empathizing and reacting to others,’ reads part of the book. The book discourages children from being self-centered. By playing sports, children work as a team and have a single aim. The cooperation between team members encourages unity and togetherness among children.
You will learn about the importance of physical fitness, mentorship, benefits of staying in a safe environment, and the importance of active parent participation in this book. The text in Movement and Mentorship: Healing Kids through Sports is not just meant for children, but also for adults who want to improve their physical health and general well being. his book is about positivity and having an active life, and that is why every young one is encouraged to read it. The author believes that by helping a child, you also help their parent. The book has several real-life stories by parents who benefited from a program Marian runs. Parents and adults are reminded to help children as they move because children cannot make most decisions on their own.
Marian Huntington runs a public charity called NovatoSpirit/KarmaSpirit which helps impoverished kids to take part in after-school sports for five years or longer. One can see how beneficial this charity is in her hometown. Through the stories shared, one understands why mentorship programs are vital. This book is a light read that will make you want to give back to society. The author wrote a short brilliant book that will help both children and parents. The author is concise in her writing, enabling the reader to get her point without having to read much. Movement and Mentorship is a great book that will bring you positivity and joy, and make you consider taking sports when you can.
