O’ Darkness, Darkness! My Son Shall Pass is an entirely plausible Christian fiction novel penned by Carlton Jordan. Clearly resourceful in this genre, Jordan creates a powerful tale marked by loss, rediscovery, and triumph through Christ. At its epicenter is a story which reverberates on the one and true giver of concise answers.
Max was a staunch Christian. For the last twenty years, he and his wife of twenty-one years had devoted their lives to paying tithes faithfully, serving in the church’s children and music ministry for a decade, and giving in the building fund commitment for six years. However, the connection between the couple had withered away over the years as they had tunneled further away from each other. Their marriage pointed towards one direction, divorce, against the backdrop of a community of congregants facing a similar regretful end that church leaders barely paid attention to.
Max is consequently compelled to reminisce about his past and present, evaluating the cracks and rifts which botched up his Christian walk and the losses that accompanied this, eventually rediscovering his first love, Christ. O’ Darkness, Darkness! My Son Shall Pass is the story of one man, who goes through divorce, separation with his children, debt, stress, and hopelessness but is able to triumph through the help of God.
Once in a while, we stumble upon a powerful book, written so well that it manages to transform us in a significant way. With an appealing combination of eternal truths, spiritual exposition, and a remarkable plot at its core, this novel tugs at your heartstrings from its very first page. The author even goes further to shed light on some of the varied misconceptions about Christian living and the role the church plays in this, leading to relaxed, slumbering attitudes among Christian believers. This book uses great characterization to reflect on today’s church and today’s Christians. I appreciated how the writer uses the main character to bring forth his wise arguments – all the while urging his audience to put their hearts in the right place; building a personal relationship with God.
O’ Darkness, Darkness! My Son Shall Pass by Carlton Jordan is undoubtedly a solid text and will warm the hearts of all Christian fiction enthusiasts. It is definitely worth a read.
