One of the oldest struggles throughout all of human history is that of good and evil. Whether or not you believe there is a definitive good and evil in the world, the influence this battle has had both in popular culture and in the hearts of every man, woman and child, is clear and ever present, and has been seen through some of mankind’s greatest literature. As singer Eric Burdon once said, “Inside each of us, there is the seed of both good and evil. It’s a constant struggle as to which one will win. And one cannot exist without the other.”
In author Alan Davis’s Pandora’s Box: Triforce, the author tells the story of Darth, a traveler and powerful spiritual leader, who goes on a quest for the infamous Infinity Stone. However, events soon occur which crippled him and cause him to be left for dead. After being found and nursed back to health, Darth begins helping his caretakers and the surrounding people, much to the dismay of the royals of the land. Taken away and forced into indentured servitude, he soon is told by Sunita, the Lady of the Berkana,
that a great evil and corruption is destroying the kingdom, and Darth must work to stop it from completely devastating the land.
This is an incredibly well written, driven and heavily mythological tale like no other. Author Alan Davis has expertly crafted a narrative which dives head first into an alternate world, one where many of our world’s histories and myths have blended into one cohesive story. In essence, this is the story of the world at large, but is also the story of love and hope. The character development for not only Darth, but others introduced early on such as Sunita, who’s evolution from a student to a master and beyond, is fascinating to see unfold.
The novel itself is the perfect read for those who love alternative history style fantasy and sci-fi books, with a twist of spiritualism and romance as well. While this book appears to be part of a larger series overall, the author does a great job of presenting the narrative in a way which allows readers to understand and connect with the protagonists and the cast of characters overall. The detailed way the author weaves together the history and mythology of so many different cultures, from Buddha and magic to the founding fathers of the United States and beyond, was what really drew me in as a reader, as the author found a way of making the narrative feel natural – despite the vast amount of magic and spiritual journeys the characters undertook.
A massively engaging, entertaining and emotional narrative, author Alan Davis’s Pandora’s Box: Triforce is a must-read sci-fi and fantasy novel. The reader is instantly drawn into this complex and perfectly written world and can’t help but be sucked into the heartfelt and emotional development these characters undergo. Magical, remarkable and deeply spiritual in its delivery, this is not a book you want to miss.
