Psychopathologist: An AJ Conti Novel by author James Bacca focuses on a highly adrenalizing investigation of a cold-blooded assassin who leaves multiple individuals dead and a dozen others injured in the wake of his exposure.
A.J. Conti is a twenty-year-old police veteran and former homicide investigator from California. He joins the Brookings PD as a consultant and immediately sets his eyes on a murder case a friend has asked him to take a look at. His request to meet the forensic pathologist who examined the victim’s body is quickly overlooked, which raises his suspicions about the credibility and authenticity of the report. His attention is further drawn to a murder case that was earlier deduced as accidental by the same examiner. As he later finds out through a credible source, the examiner was behaving differently when conducting that particular autopsy. Corti can’t help but wonder whether this disclosure is the lead he so desperately needs to solve the puzzle.
The villain, as it turns out, is a cold-blooded assassin who delights in terminating people he hates. He attributes his nature to the absurd deeds done to him by his mother and uncle when he was young. He has successfully disguised himself until now, with Conti’s arrival, who, without a doubt, is nothing like the investigators he has seen before. Sadly, anyone who closes his path is disposable, which means that Conti has to watch his back going forward. However, the latter is in for a shock when he learns the hard way the kind of foe he is up against, especially when the unthinkable happens to his loved ones.
This is a neatly arranged tale that exemplifies the effect of parents’ behavior on their children later in life. It is richly drawn and has a distinctive setting which not only anchors the story but also gives it a pervasive influence on the mood, themes, and tone therein. The author has described the setting succinctly and in such a way the readers can picture themselves there.
As you read on, you will be glued to the edge of your seat, beholding the descent of a miscreant who would always take a step back to admire his dirty work, thanks to the protagonist’s vast experience, skill, and agility.
