Author Vik Azeem’s, Quixotic enchants readers with a jocular tale of a hopeless romantic’s journey to finding both love and himself. Somewhat reminiscent of the literary classic, Don Quixote, this delightfully charming narrative is rife with wit, charm, hilarity and the clash of the dreamy expectations of an eternally chivalrous romantic and a cold, romance – inhibited reality.

A chuckle filled read from the beginning, the story follows the comical romantic adventures of protagonist Kevin, who, is aided and encouraged by his best friend and side-kick, Larry. Readers are invited into Kevin’s world right after high school, during a pivotal experience as he struggles with divulging his feelings to the object of his deeply burning affection – Ashley. It is during a last minute ditch effort (at which he fails miserably) that he unexpectedly comes into contact with an irascible gypsy who claims to “curse” his love life.

Some years later, Kevin still falters at romance. He experiences, more misses than hits within his pursuits which in turn compels him to continue fostering his belief in the gypsy’s curse working against his achieving the love life he wants. Because of his seeming bad luck in relationships, Kevin begins feeling a bit forlorn, and almost gives up on his unreal expectations of romance and happiness. Then one fateful day he meets Jenny, a witty, assertive, snide and romantically reticent woman who re-sparks a romantic fervor in Kevin. Always the relentless romantic, Kevin, pursues her accordingly, he’s kind, chivalrous and thoughtful to a point, but as before, things begin to take a bad turn. However, does this relationship fail because or the curse of a crotchety old witch or is it somehow Kevin’s fault? Kevin, confused and hurt looks for a second chance with Jenny to cure his romantic malady, which also leads him to discovering a bit of truth about himself.

I thoroughly enjoyed Quixotic. I found this story to be as touching, and warmhearted as it is humorous. Author Azeem did a great job with development of both the story and characters. The story flowed well, was interesting and kept me laughing. I found myself absolutely fascinated by the quirky characters, especially Kevin, whose naiveté, cheekiness, and chivalric antics really made this a fun, engaging read. If you like a satisfying romantic comedy that you can cozy up with, then I definitely recommend Quixotic, it is a read that is well worth it.
