Raven’s Way by author Kerry L. Marzock, is a captivating fiction novel which seamlessly blends elements of horror, fantasy, and the supernatural. As the story unfolds, the narrative introduces readers to the two main protagonists, Johnny Raven and Detective Kathleen Morello, who skillfully navigate Philadelphia’s death and danger-ridden streets. Detective Morello, a dedicated protector of the City of Brotherly Love, soon realizes there are threats prowling beyond her reach. Johnny Raven, a character she recognizes as unpredictable, approaches her with an offer of help, which thrusts her into a nightmarish reality filled with werewolves, dark romance, secrets, and suspense. The author has also included poems at the beginning and end of the book, which not only sum up the overall themes but are also enjoyable to read.
From the opening lines, where the author sets the stage with “There was death in the air,” it becomes evident this book promises an intriguing and immersive story. The readers are plunged into a world where the characters find themselves in a mysterious encounter with dangerous wolves, establishing an atmosphere of suspense and danger from the beginning.
The characters in the novel are flawed, adding depth and realism to their respective stories. These characters and their circumstances further enhance the overall narrative. In the beginning, we witness the protagonist, Johnny, contemplating the idea of revenge before the focus shifts to Morello’s investigation of the deaths all over the city that appear to be from some unnatural creature. Johnny’s thirst for revenge and uncovering the secret regarding Samantha and his family are integral parts of the story which help move the narrative forward and allow readers to empathize. While there are hints of humor, tension, and action-packed scenes, the book maintains a dark and gritty tone. The author has included flashbacks and background stories to add depth to the characters and their circumstances. Even after the resolution of the central plotline, the book’s ending hints that Marzock has more in store for the characters, and they are yet to be tested, which intrigued me and left me wanting to know more.
Marzock’s writing style is highly descriptive, contributing to the immersive quality of the book. The author’s portrayal of Philadelphia is particularly noteworthy, as the setting is almost treated as a character in itself, playing a vital role in the plot and story development. Raven’s Way offers an immersive reading experience, with pacing and layers of depth to the plot.
Overall, Raven’s Way by Kerry L. Marzock combines horror, fantasy, and supernatural elements. Fans of the supernatural and werewolf romance genre will definitely find this novel an enjoyable addition to their reading list. I highly recommend this book.
