Author Kelly Coleman keeps the reader on the edge with excellent narration and vivid scenes in the book River Creed. One moment you are following your favorite character, and the next you come across a tragedy that you never foresaw. The writing is unique as the author used classic literary stylistic elements and flawlessly arranged the storyline. The themes in the book can get pretty dark too, with the author incorporating topics including murder, violence, sexual assault, and betrayal. What I enjoyed most is that no part of the story is dull, as the reader is continuously occupied by the events which happen in the book.
The reader is taken to Missouri where the first character, John J. Cooper, is introduced. John knows everything in the Ozarks. A mild fellow, I liked the character he was given as his role helped develop the story. Life in the Ozarks is unreal as everything you can think of happens at the Ozarks; crime, unnecessary killings, rape, and every other vice. Life is ridiculous and the characters are incredible, sometimes they get to be extreme in their acts. The reader follows the vigilantes in their quest for justice. Things get
interesting as the author takes a different action with the vigilantes. Will they wait for the justice they so much want or will their patience wear out?
I admired how the author described Missouri. The scenes which take place make one wish to be on the ground as Kelly Coleman was lively, expressive with the descriptions. Virtually navigating the woods, and going through the forest and rivers was a wonderful experience as the author gives the reader a chance to see the beauty of nature. Beneath the beauty, however, lay a frightening and ghastly spot where evil could be hidden. It is easy to commit a crime and dispose of bodies in the thick and dark forests. The Ozarks are wild and it sometimes takes a hardcore survivalist to live in the wild. The Ozarks teach you endurance, patience, survival, and life as you have never known anywhere else. Reading through the chapters was refreshing, especially when the Kelly Coleman leaves the reader with a cliff hanger on a previous chapter. River Creed is that type of book that you do not want to place down once you start reading. The plot can only get more exciting.
The suspense here gets intense with the reader yearning to know what will happen next. We follow characters who are forced to give up what they love just to take part in the game of backwoods justice. There is so much happening in between the chapters that the reader is forced to catch up with the intriguing story. Kelly Coleman is an outstanding author who produces quality work. Everything from the sentence structures to the use of imagery, personification, and metaphors was exceptional in the story.
