Runnin’ with Frogs: A Navy Memoir is an extraordinary and passionate memoir by retired Rear Admiral George Rhodes Worthington. He explores his early life and schooling in the U.S Navy Academy, his active duties in the U.S Navy – in and out of the country – and his process of moving up the ladder in his career. Author Worthington further documents how he joined the Underwater Demolition Team training in California. He explains the decisions which had to be made while on active duty, detailing each event succinctly. The book is a shining light of the endurance, discipline, and hard work that men in uniform put in place to keep up and deliver their services efficiently.
Runnin’ with Frogs: A Navy Memoir is an extremely elaborate read. The author is raw and authentic in his writing. It is evident that George R. Worthington was passionate about his navy career by the way he writes fervidly. The text brings out how the Navy trains and equips combat-ready naval forces capable of winning wars and maintaining the freedom of the seas.
I had to look up what some initials used in the text stand for, but that did not deter my reading one bit. Runnin’ with Frogs features a collage of photos across the chapters which help highlight the details in the book. The editing was professionally done which added to the enjoyment of this insightful account. “A good Navy is not a provocation to war. It is the surest guarantee of peace.”- Theodore Roosevelt. These words resonate so well with the information in the book.
Running with Frogs: A Navy Memoir by George R. Worthington is a very informative memoir which will tug at the heartstrings of anyone interested in pursuing a career in the Navy – or readers eager to expand their knowledge about naval training and duties. It is certainly worth the time.
