Scriptural Trail from Eden is an insightful and moving summary of the history of Christianity. Howard Bastian has written a book that will enlighten readers. This book tells the story of the Old and New Testaments of the Bible through a series of themes such as “Promise”, “Redeemer”, and “Purpose”. Bastian writes about how God tried to keep Adam and Eve in Garden of Eden. He recounts how God helped the Israelites escape Egypt in the chapter, “Intervention.” Bastian also writes about the life of Jesus throughout the text. He writes about how Jesus took on the sins of the world when he was crucified and later resurrected.
Bastian’s writing is well-researched and insightful. He adds his personal thoughts about pivotal parts of the Bible, but also backs up his analysis with Bible verses. When he writes about Jesus going to Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, he adds a Bible verse from the book of Zachariah 9:9:“Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee.” He also adds an empathetic analysis of Jesus being crucified with the well-known quote that Jesus made on the cross from the book of Luke 23:34: “Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.”
Bastian’s writing illustrates the loving nature of Christianity and makes it relatable to readers. He writes movingly about Christianity positively impacted his life. He also writes about Jesus’ life as an allegory for a life of redemption and love. While Bastian writes about God punishing those who disobey, he also strikes a kinder tone than other Christian books. Scriptural Trail from Eden emphasizes God’s love and forgiveness more than his punishments.
Bastian also expertly contrasts people in the Bible who obeyed God’s teachings with the disobedient people who disobeyed and followed the devil instead. Bastian’s experience of religious writing comes through in this text. Scriptural Trail from Eden would be best for experienced Christian readers who want a more in-depth analysis of the Bible. The book would also be good for readers who are new to Christianity and want an easily understood summary of the Old and New Testament. Even readers who aren’t religious can find insight from studying the most well-known stories of the Bible for purely historical purposes. The book can be read in Bible study groups or read in Biblical historical contexts.
