Shopping in a secondhand store can lead to some great inexpensive finds and in the case of character Dan Harper, shopping in a secondhand store led to an inexpensive find that became a life changing experience. In the entertaining paranormal thriller novel “Secondhand Sight” by author Rocky Leonard, Dan Harper is the heroic character at the center of the story.Dan is an average kind of guy; he is good looking, married to the love of his life Beth, works hard as a software developer, will be father in the near future and to save money he likes to shop for bargains in secondhand stores. However, with the purchase of a secondhand tie is where average ends for Dan Harper. Once he wears the used necktie, he is thrust into the world of the paranormal through bizarre visions and communications. Wearing the tie awakened something in Dan and it opened a doorway to the paranormal for him.
The used tie has connections to the acts of a maniacal serial killer (who remains on the prowl) and it is by touch that he is suddenly besieged with gut wrenching scenes of murder, murder victims, visits from spirits, spirit communication including lapses into psychic trances. During the psychic trances, he is inexplicably taken to a house he has never seen before, which also happens to be the scene of a recent murder. Unsure as to whether, he is crazy or a subconsciously driven serial killer himself, Dan is determined to get to the heart of the strange occurrences surrounding him, which includes a visit to a neighborhood psychic but the answer he gets from her- he refuses to believe.
As the story progresses Dan’s world becomes increasingly pressurized, his wife winds up very ill from her pregnancy and because he repeatedly winds up in locations that lead police to believe that he is somehow tied to the recent murder, thus making him a person of interest and keeps him under police scrutiny. Faced with the daunting tasks of proving his innocence to the police, locating and stopping the killer before he gets to his next victims and being available for his ill and pregnant wife – Dan is in a race against time.
Leonard, is a proficient storyteller with a vivid imagination and knows how to maintain an air of suspense throughout his story. Secondhand Sight will keep the reader riveted to the book. The story moves at an even pace while an atmosphere of intrigue builds until the story’s exciting climax at the end. The portrayal of the characters, their interactions, emotions and descriptions of the paranormal events in the story are well written and enjoyable to read. I recommend this book for readers that enjoy books with a paranormal twist.
