The pursuit of knowledge and the truth can often go hand in hand. To seek the truth is to bring enlightenment and understanding to a situation and emerge from the shadows, no matter what that truth may be. As Buddha once said, “Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth.”

In author John Graham’s Seraph – Book 3 of the Voidstalker series, Gabriel has found himself sidelined as the DNI faces a grave threat from saboteurs that span into the far reaches of power and influence. After a terror attack from a toxin attack leaves dozens dead, the DNI wants to keep Gabriel far from the true threat they face. Gabriel finds he’s not in the mood to follow orders, but the true secret the DNI hides from him is the face of the leader of this new threat, his own father.

A true sci-fi epic that many fans of modern-day science fiction stories like Mass Effect will appreciate due to its faithfulness to the genre and mature storytelling, author John Graham’s work excels in this third novel. The morality and philosophy the author utilizes in his storytelling is superb, as it showcases the desire for military powers to create super soldiers that operate at the same level as machines, and yet in order to preserve humanity they must find a way to keep these soldiers from losing their humanity altogether, making for an interesting contrast in the Voidstalkers themselves, including protagonist Gabriel.

This is a book for anyone who enjoys a good sci-fi read, especially sci-fi with a cyberpunk and military spin. While it helps to have read the first two books of the series, the author does an excellent job of creating an engaging and powerful enough read that it is not an absolute necessity to have done so. The strong character development and amazing world-building by the author felt authentic enough and strong enough to let the novel shine on its own.

A masterful, creative and evenly paced read, author John Graham’s Seraph is a must-read sci-fi book of the summer. Taking the readers through shocking twists and turns for both the story and the characters themselves, the narrative is entertaining and really attention-grabbing, making this a book that is not to be missed!
