There comes a point and time in everyone’s life when the world we know and live in doesn’t feel like it is enough anymore. The need to seek fulfillment outside of our comfort zones and the lives we grew so comfortable living in becomes overwhelming, and forces us to seek new experiences, new people, and so much more. Yet the journey to find one’s purpose can often be filled with pitfalls and traps, disguising dangers and heartbreak in the form of dreams and hopes for our futures.
In author Dave Jacoby’s Shep the Sheep: The Lost Sheep, the author explores this concept through the life and times of Shep the Sheep. A young sheep with dreams of escaping his world and finding his place far away from home, Shep finds himself on the path to becoming a rockstar, not knowing just how far those around him are willing to go to corrupt his soul in the process. It is up to Shep and the forces of light to stop the forces of darkness from winning the day and taking Shep for themselves.
The author did an incredible job of crafting a short yet powerful read. The first thing that stands out in this book is the imagery and artistic style of the book, which felt like a blend of old 1920’s Disney shorts, Disney’s Pinocchio, and retro-style newspaper comics. The art style of the book played well into the themes of this book, allowing the author’s message of faith and community to shine through perfectly. The quick pace of the book and the complex character development allowed the narrative to bring the ideas presented in the Christian Bible to life in a fresh and fun way.
This is the perfect read for those who enjoy sci-fi and fantasy novels, especially those that incorporate children’s book and comic illustrations, themes of religion and spirituality, and heartfelt character development. The story, while perfect for younger readers, appeals to a wider audience overall that allows the theme and message the author was trying to convey to be something that families, friends, and love ones can share with each other time and time again.
Memorable, fun, and entertaining, author Dave Jacoby’s Shep the Sheep: The Lost Sheep is a heartfelt fantasy-meets-children’s book/comic that you won’t be able to put down. The wild character developments and rich narrative that is stirred on by the retro-style illustrations will keep readers hanging onto the author’s every word.
