When it comes to the important events or moments of our lives, everyone has different ways of either commemorating those events or keeping a record of those events to survive beyond us. For some, it is a song or album written and recorded for people to enjoy. For others, it is a photograph or video recorded and preserved on film for family and friends to enjoy later on. One powerful and creative way to honor these memories and events is to turn to writing, and one great way of using writing for this type of remembrance is poetry.
In author and poet Kent Zimmerman’s Silkfoot, the author delves into poetry in order to reflect on life in general and recollection in order to tune one’s soul. A short collection of poems, the book explores themes of love, of seasons changing, and of metamorphosis. With beautiful works of art and photography included throughout the book, the author created a thoughtful collection worth reading.
The author did such a beautiful job of conveying personal memories into relatable poems which readers could resonate with. The imagery (both the actual photos and artwork and the imagery of the author’s words) was so vivid and powerful to read, as the poems really elevated the themes found within to new heights. What stood out to me was the way the author found a balance between the poem’s themes and the narratives that each poem delved into. It was so seamless and effortless on the author’s part when traversing in between theme and narrative, and kept me as a reader engaged.
This is the perfect read for those who enjoy poetry, especially short poetry collections that delve into various aspects of life that everyone engages with. As a fan of poetry, I enjoyed feeling the raw emotions the author poured into each poem and the imagery and themes these poems invoked.
Fast paced, entertaining, and emotionally-driven, author and poet Kent Zimmerman’s Silkfoot is a brilliant and hauntingly engaging read. The poems flowed smoothly and kept me wanting to go back and reread one after the other, as the author did a fabulous job of keeping me invested and truly moved.
