One of the cornerstones of life is struggle. The life of any person is filled with a struggle of one kind or another. While trying to compare one another’s struggles to each other is a fruitless and unproductive path, there is something to be said for the enormity and weight of one’s own struggles. For no matter how hard a person tries to understand you, no one will be able to feel the hardship that comes with your own personal struggle.
It is that personal struggle and hardship which drives the book Some Organized Chaos: (Poetry and Such) by author Tumbleweed. The book is a collection of poems which catalogue the process the author took in life to rebuild in the wake of a struggle with addiction. The trauma experienced in life and the path it led to, leading to this collection of poems, in an effort to confront those emotions and experiences which helped bring a person back to life essentially.
The author does such a brilliant job of crafting a narrative through these poems. The journey the author goes on, from the confrontation with addiction and struggles with self-identity, to the work that goes into wrestling control of the addiction through therapy and work, and the needed journey one must go on in order to really capture the heart of this life. The powerful imagery in the author’s writing style allowed the reader to get lost in these memories and experiences the poems captured, and the emotional depth of these poems will stay with readers long after its publication.
If you are a fan of poetry, or non-fiction narratives which revolve around battling addiction and trauma, then this is the perfect read for you. The book balances the personal narrative aspect of this book with the artistic creativity that went into the poems themselves. The mental and emotional struggles of the author could be felt in each and every poem, and the relatability of the poems to those who went through similar struggles could be felt throughout this collection. The depth of insight and engagement the author provided to readers who have never had to go through this situation made this such a compelling collection, and so that is why this is a must-read book.
