One of the oldest and most powerful struggles since the dawn of man has been the age-old battle of good versus evil. While the notion of good and evil is one that has been challenged in recent years, the basic concept of heroes and villains, bad guys versus good guys, and all things bad versus the forces of good has been utilized more than most other narratives in the world of literature. As Eric Burdon once said, “Inside each of us, there is the seed of both good and evil. It’s a constant struggle as to which one will win. And one cannot exist without the other.”
In author Kaylin McFarren’s Soul Seeker, the author takes readers on a haunting and perilous journey of good versus evil. When a dark and malevolent force known as Crighton arrives in the small town of Lochton, Illinois, an innocent father named Poe is thrown into turmoil, as his son is made into the prime suspect of an arson case, and dark secrets of his son’s life come to light. An attempt to save his son’s soul and life ends with two souls being lost, but things take a drastic turn as Crighton is captured alongside an angel, and the two are forced to become soulmates by scientists with a penchant for experimenting on supernatural creatures. Soon Crighton becomes a target and the forces of his boss Lucifer, Heaven and the Sovereign Sector society descend on him.
A truly entertaining read, the author does an amazing job of blending horror, suspense and romance all into one complex plot. The exploration of good and evil and the duality most people have within them shines brightly in this narrative, and the visceral nature of the action and suspense that this novel produces creates some pretty amazing yet intense imagery for the reader. What truly stands out in this novel however is the complex characters the author brings to life, from protagonists like Crighton to Poe and his family dynamics and the angels, demons and other creatures Crighton meets along the way. Delving into why Crighton holds a dual nature and how he evolves as his journey with his “soulmate” breathes fresh life into the supernatural thriller genre, and makes this story shine brightly.
This is the perfect read for those who love paranormal romance novels, especially those with an emphasis on horror, suspense and twists on religious or mythological lore. As a fan of the genre, it was interesting to see how the character’s evolved and elevated that same genre and kept readers invested throughout the entirety of the novel, creating a truly memorable reading experience.
An entertaining and exciting read, author Kaylin McFarren’s Soul Seeker is a great supernatural thriller/paranormal romance read. A truly one-of-a-kind cast of characters and brilliant twists on mythology and lore make this novel a stand-out for fans of the genre.
