Family is not always blood. It is the people in your life who want you in theirs. The ones who accept you for who you are, the ones who would do anything to see you smile and love you no matter what.
Strong Stone Walls by author Joann Klusmeyer is a heartwarming tale which chronicles the lives of Solomon Tanner’s family. Solomon, a builder, and a shepherd on the prairie across the Mississippi rescues a young infant from the cold of the grassland and wolves after her parents die in an accident involving their horse-drawn wagon. The couple, young and enthusiastic, were from a missionary family and believed by relocating to the prairie, they would be fulfilling the Boss’ wish.
Solomon takes the child home and names her Nettie and employs a widow, Miss Fern, to take up the household duties in his home and become Nettie’s caregiver. She brings along her son, Blue, and thus begins the journey of Solomon’s blended family. He and Miss Fern begin a family and welcome more children together. The story features the members of the whole family, their struggles, their triumphs, and their lives to adulthood. In it all, they do this as a team.
There is so much to love about this book. The storyline was enjoyable and evenly paced with amazing characters and strong descriptions. The allure of the developing attraction between Solomon and Miss Fern will entice readers. Strong Stone Walls reveals the descriptive prowess which played a key role in sustaining my interest in the storyline.
The author draws from the teachings of the Bible in such a powerful way while exploring the role of angels to humankind. Author Klusmeyer succeeds in showcasing different themes. Perhaps most appealing to me is the fact the author does not rush the plot and takes time to describe each scene. This makes the reader meld with the characters effortlessly.
Strong Stone Walls is a well-written, professionally edited story, and a real page-turner. This is a family-friendly novel which has great prose and a suitable pace. It is a wonderful text for pure escapist entertainment!
