Taryn’s Tropical Christmas: A Taryn and Kevin Story is a tender-hearted fictional story written by Terry Boucher. A royal wedding is set to take place in Jabalia. Princess Jameela and Zuberi, the prime minister’s son, had been childhood sweethearts and had waited for this special day for a long time. On the wedding day, Princess Taryn, Jameela’s long-term friend, and her husband Prince Kevin of Athanasia, were among the guests invited. They were accompanied by Taryn’s parents, her younger brother, James, and their sailor friend, Felix.
Taryn and Kevin hope to spend Christmas in tropical Jabalia away from the snowy Christmases at home in Athanasia. Among those invited were Tabitha and Joanna, from a secret country known as New Atlantis. James had long been enamored with Tabitha, upon his first encounter with her earlier that year and had hoped to meet with her. Unbeknownst to James, the young woman he had a crush on was a mermaid, a secret which was kept away from the rest of the world. After the wedding, a tragedy occurs near a waterfall, and Taryn begins experiencing unusual dizzy spells that were a surprise for everyone.
Beautiful as it is heartwarming, Taryn’s Tropical Christmas is a sumptuous gala for the soul. Boucher infuses well-thought-of watercolor illustrations which help visualize the story with great dynamism. The writing follows a regular rhythm throughout with a free-floating motif making it easily accessible for its intended audience. The author carves a nostalgic Christmas story that is memorable with a strong friendship theme which makes it all the more delightful.
The book aptly gives all its characters a decent send-off and it offers readers a satisfying conclusion which is a win-win in all ways. Its book cover is also creatively done with the colors of the title sticking out from the background. Taryn’s Tropical Christmas by Terry Boucher is no doubt a pleasant gift for young readers who are looking for an entertaining story with educative themes right from the coziness of their homes.
