This book is for every environmentally conscious person who cares about the world we live in and how we use the natural resources. Author Subhash S. Naik writes about critical topics in a fun way, in a style which makes the reading experience easy and exciting. The Earth In Custody: Verses of lament and comment is an enjoyable book to read as every page has something the reader will like. I appreciate the author for his choice of words and length of his verses, they are neither too short nor to long. In, The Earth In Custody: Verses of lament and comment readers get to easily digest one topic before moving to the next.
The book is divided into nine parts which the author calls bonds. Each bond is further subdivided into several other categories that have verses on a variety of topics. I liked this arrangement of the bonds as it makes the reading experience a delight. The bonds are connected but also exist independently, in that you do not have to follow an order when reading. You can read the first two bonds and jump to the fifth or seventh bond and you will still connect with the message the author is sharing. The sub-topics in bonds vary from nature, seasons, sports, universal energies, science, modern development and societal settings among other things.
Each topic or verse is gracefully narrated to the understanding of the reader. There are several verses that were special to me. These verses are exceptional because the author uses resounding words as in: Thinking Positive, The Three Monkeys, The Earth Is Dying, A Sojourn, The Five Elements, Science Fiction, Clean Environment, The Sun God, and I Am Happy. I enjoyed reading these topics as the author seemed to be conversing with me on a personal level. The verse on Thinking Positive had uplifting words which would cheer up any reader! The message was to think as a winner whatever the odds are. I enjoy reading Subhash S. Naik as an author as he is calm, gentle and warm with words. Reading his book is therapeutic and something every avid reader should do as Subhash S. Naik’s words make one temporarily forget about whatever issues they may have.
The author’s diction is impeccable. The bonds, just like the verses, were neatly arranged and I also had a few favorites. Every bond is distinct no doubt but bonds six, seven and nine stood out for me. I appreciate these bonds more as I learned tens of lessons on life and growth as an individual. Subhash S. Naik is talented in his craft. He has a way with words and can convince even those that care less about the environment to think of the effects of pollution.
It is an honor to have authors like Subhash S. Naik who publish material like The Earth In Custody: Verses of lament and comment as the content in this book will help human beings safeguard the environment for present and future use.
