Whatever path one find’s themselves on, the journey they take to get to where they want to be in life is what truly defines them. As Henri Frederic Amiel once said, “Life is short and we have never too much time for gladdening the hearts of those who are traveling the dark journey with us. Oh be swift to love, make haste to be kind.”
In author Clarence Mike Dunaway’s romantic thriller The Journey, two young women in a small town in Northern California vow to remain celibate in order to put their college years to good use, but things take a dramatic turn when not only do the two women meet men that could be potential husbands, but a string of crimes in the area plagues their lives, as they witness the passing of a young boy from a hit and run while working as nurses. Two criminals take their criminal acts to new heights and keep readers on the edge of their seat, as their actions have consequences on the lives of the two women and the people in their lives as they witness the criminal’s aftermath.
The author does a great job of creating a detailed account of the narrative within a short read. The story is defined by the great character development of the protagonists and the people in their lives. While there are some grammatical errors readers may notice early on in the story, the author’s ability to create engaging conflict for the characters and memorable settings make this story shine above those few errors.
This is a novel for anyone who enjoys a healthy mixture of romance and character development with criminal thriller themes and antagonists to oppose the protagonists. The story was engaging and really kept readers hanging off of the author’s every word, keeping the story moving at a relatively quick pace.
This was a fast-paced, intense and fascinating read. The author’s message rings loud and clear as the story progresses, showcasing that we can never predict or plan for the journey we find ourselves on, but learning to adapt and trust yourself to follow that journey through is how we can find true happiness, while fighting against it can sometimes lead us down dark paths that are inescapable. The Journey by author Clarence Mike Dunaway is a must-read romantic thriller.
