The New Land is a magical tale readers will love. The first book of Daisy Bourne’s fantasy novel series will transport readers to Avalon for adventure and excitement. The New Land tells the story of Merlin, a magician who leaves Briton to find a new land for magical beings to live together in harmony. He and King Arthur lead the magical fairies and witches to Avalon, and they peacefully co-exist with giants that live in Avalon. He also wants to travel to neighboring Twydell to make peace with the neighbors in that area. That harmony is tested, however, when sea creatures named Trajeans attack the Avalonians and Merlin has to fight to keep his new homeland safe.
The New Land is a fast-paced story that is action-packed from beginning to end. The swordplay and battles will have readers on the edge of their seats. Merlin and Edward are fierce fighters, but also sensitive characters who want to have peace in their chosen home. King Arthur is a wise advisor and gives much-needed counsel to Merlin throughout the novel.
The female characters in the novel are also very powerful, a refreshing change from most fantasy novels. Characters like Esmeralda, the sorceress is a powerful ally to Merlin and fights alongside him bravely with her magic spells. Daisy is a fearless character who can tame lion cubs and battle enemies just as heartily as any male character in the book. Bourne’s descriptions of all the characters and their powers in the beginning of The New Land is a helpful guide for readers.
Avalon is an enchanting character of its own in The New Land. Bourne describes the fictional land so vividly, readers will think the setting is real. The descriptions of the lush greenery and mountains are expertly paired with a map of Avalon at the beginning of the novel.
The New Land would be best for fans of fantasy novels like Harry Potter and other novels about magical powers. The Merlin and King Arthur references in the novel would also appeal to fans of medieval fantasy. The book would also be great for readers of The Lord of the Rings trilogy or other Tolkien-esque novels about journeys. Though the novel may appeal most to young adult readers, The New Land can appeal to readers of all ages.
Daisy Bourne has written a book that will have readers clamoring for more. The New Land will have readers eager to return to Avalon.
