It is incredible how much one can learn from a stranger’s life. Yvon Milien’s story is not just inspiring but also moving. There are nuggets of wisdom right from the first chapter of the book through to the last page.
The feeling I had while reading the book can be described as stimulating and fascinating. The author started with a significant reference; the story of Emperor Nero, who caused the fire that burned ten of Rome’s fourteen districts. His reasons for starting the inferno? He wanted to build a luxurious complex and also to watch the blazing fire while dressed in a tragedian’s outfit singing about the beauty of the inferno. Through the story of Emperor Nero, the author reminded us that when we set our lives on fire, we have to prepare for the impact of the blazing and ask for God’s mercy.
Yvon Milien tells his story from his childhood to his adolescent years and when an adult. The author’s life was not a walk in the park. He faced some challenges and wished he could get some things which life did not offer. What is admirable in the author’s experience was his resilience and his ability to keep hope alive. Many would have given up when things become tough, not Yvon Milien. He knew tomorrow had better opportunities and so he was patient enough to witness what the future held. Yvon Milien’s life may have been challenging but he sure had his highs. One of my favorite moments in his life was when he met Francine and fell in love with her. He wanted to show his love for her to the whole world, but Francine’s siblings made it difficult for him.
One important lesson the reader can take from Yvon’s life is never to trust everyone. Friends can turn against you and do harmful things to you. Phill was one of those friend’s in Yvon’s story. Reading the chapter about Phill’s jealousy made me more aware of backstabbers and two-faced friends. Family is an essential unit in society. I loved reading about Yvon’s mother because she seemed like a kind woman whom everyone would want for a mother. The two were close and understood each other correctly. Yvon’s mother was his pillar.
The Rhythm of My Life is about a man who overcame obstacles to emerge a winner. Even during his most difficult times, the author always remembered that God was in charge of everything. This book will have you believe in God if you had lost your faith. Through the author’s inspiring story, we are able to see how God works in miraculous ways. This book can be classified as a religious self-help book. The writing is excellent and the lessons remarkable. I lived through Yvon’s life and saw the world through his eyes in this book. I recommend The Rhythm of My Life: Tuning into the Rocky Rhythm of Fire to readers who enjoy motivational and spiritual books.
