Apart from the compelling storyline, readers get absorbed in a myriad of issues that are observed in real life. The Streamlined Locomotive is a terrific read because it makes one think of where they come from, their background, and what they are doing to better themselves. The biggest theme is family dynamics. It is suitably presented from the onset. As you follow the main character, you understand why some families are the way they are and why every adult has a role to play, whether in a family set-up or society at large. I enjoyed that even in this fictitious world. Author Stephen Lloyd Auslender connects his readers with different elements of reality. The Streamlined Locomotive has quantities of lessons for individuals that have leadership responsibilities and tons of entertainment for readers who enjoy a good fiction story.
We follow the life of Theopolis P. Bezelbottom and his family. Theo comes from a well-to-do family and can get anything he wants. He, however, has a different personality from other male figures in the family. Theo is okay with being average. As long as he puts in little effort and enjoys what he deems important, Theo will go home happy. He does not aim too far. He will work like any other man, but going the extra mile is where he draws the line. He is, however, a pleasant character. On one side, one can see his reasons for being average; Not everyone wants to be the crème de la crème. On the other hand, Theo seems to be letting down everyone who contributed to his family’s wealth, given that he is set to inherit the main part of one of the country’s major railroads.
His uncle Throckmorton P. Bezelbottom nonetheless, wants more for him. The Second World War is looming, and Throckmorton P. Bezelbottom being an industrialist, wants his nephew to be more like him. His other uncle Aloysius P. Bezelbottom also expects more from him. Aloysius needs Theo to create a streamlined steam engine for the two-bit third-rate feeder railroad that the county runs. This is where things get interesting. Is it a task he can accomplish? Theo has to grow up fast. I appreciate that the author blended all these personalities when creating the characters to give a unique distinction to each. I like Theo because he is fun to hang out with, but I adore Uncle Throckmorton, for his presence is felt whenever he enters a room. From the latter, readers learn about hard work, stability, and being futuristic. Many of the characters in Stephen Lloyd Auslender’s book were different in the sense that each one brought their amusing side and madness. Another favorite character was Theo’s better half.
The Streamlined Locomotive is a great read for fictional lovers that enjoy humor. Stephen Lloyd Auslender was not short of wit as he made some of his characters comical and most of the conversations humorous. I also applaud him for the excellent narration and the wonderful diction in the book.
