Being newly wedded makes life seem so romantic, wonderful and exciting. Whether the newlyweds are young, middle aged or senior – for all experiencing a new marriage brings a whole new dimension to love. Such is the case of young and in love characters Chelsea Davenport and Kyle Davis as portrayed in the romance novel Three Gifts by lauded author Mary Flinn. Three Gifts is a continuation of the love story between Chelsea and Kyle; which was initially portrayed in an earlier romance novel by Mary Flinn, The One. This book is a third in a trilogy of romance novels by Mary Flinn.Chelsea and Kyle were high school sweethearts until they took that big step into the land of the married. Chelsea is an accomplished dancer and ballet teacher and Kyle is an accomplished home builder like, his father. As a married couple, Chelsea and Kyle soon experience some emotionally confusing issues like handling problems of trust and jealousy. Also the couple deals with heart breaking and terrifying events that although devastating, enabled them to grow as both individuals. They grow from their heart – felt experiences as a loving couple which eventually leads them to come to the conclusion that having a strong faith in God, as well as a loving mate and family (which also represents the three gifts mentioned in the title) can make all the difference in the success of a marriage.
The story generally takes place in beautiful North Carolina where the reader is treated to vividly described scenes of the area’s lush landscapes which make North Carolina the gorgeous and scenic state that it is. Although Chelsea and Kyle are the central characters in this novel, the story is also populated by friends and family of Chelsea and Kyle who through their personal relationships and experiences demonstrate real life examples of both successful and failed marriages which through observation also helps the young couple to grow emotionally. The story of Chelsea and Kyle is told from each character’s point of view which adds to the emotional level of the story and made reading this novel interesting and enjoyable.
Three Gifts is a truly enjoyable romance novel that is well written and edited, emotionally satisfying and unfettered by over the top sexuality that is usually found in modern day romance novels and that factor alone made it all the more enjoyable as a romance novel. The characters created by author Mary Flinn really work in this novel because from the very beginning of the story the reader will find themselves truly caring about the story’s characters and wanting to follow what happens to them. I enthusiastically recommend this book, even if you don’t normally read romance novels. You will find this novel a great read just for the realistic and dramatically depicted story of a young couple that is learning to deal with life as a married couple and all the ups and downs that it brings. Whether you are a fan of Mary Flinn or a first time reader you will enjoy this novel.
