Anyone who has binge-watched “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” will love Time and Curses: A Love for All Seasons by author Loretta Elaine Jones. It has all the thrills, sex, money, betrayals, cursing and infidelities that made the TV show popular.
At the center of this Southern tale is the wealthy Jackson family, featuring siblings Bobby, James and Elise, and their parents, Gracie and JJ. The question is, who will ultimately seize power as the head of the family’s billion-dollar auto dealership business in South Carolina? Along the way, there are plenty of plot twists, parties, cheating, threats and backstabbing among the siblings and their spouses.
Gracie is a strong, dignified woman of faith. JJ is a wise father and smart businessman held in high esteem in the community. Everyone in the family owns opulent homes and luxury cars. Bobby is an attorney and ex-cop, cool as ice and always under control. This story counts as pure escapist entertainment. You see the relationships develop or (in some cases) implode. A genuine love story unfolds. Jealousy and resentment run high. The author gives us sharp, realistic dialog.
The suspense and a high-stakes trial in the last third of the book are intriguing. Does an outsider hold a secret vendetta against the family? Why does Bobby seem so suspicious after an unexpected tragedy occurs? You won’t want to put the book down until you find out.
In the end, the eventual resolutions of the key questions are satisfying. Time and Curses: A Love for All Seasons is a worthwhile and enjoyable read.
