In the process of living her life, author Angela D. Martin had her epiphany of realizations that the Lord has answered her prayers, by showing her the divine ways of Christian beliefs as being self-evident in the scriptures of the Holy Bible. Even her book’s title, To Thine Be The Glory, was given to her by the Lord in a subconscious revelation. She then embarked on writing her own abbreviated autobiographical encounters sewing throughout the scriptures of the Bible and explains how her life was changed by her understanding of the teachings of Christianity.
Her parents came from Jamaica each having a large family; her mom has nine siblings and her dad had six. They moved to England where Angela was born, along with her brother Daniel and sister Mazy, and the unfortunate childhood deaths of Gee and yet again the passing of Pee due to rather unexplained health problems. Not having the loving home life she wished, Angela Martin was left to her own resources to achieve her goals, which included accolades in math and accounting. Her life continued when she married, yet admittedly at that time not truly understanding the nature of the sacrament of marriage. This caused her to misunderstand the Christian significance of Marriage. Owing to a deep sense of not being appreciated and rejection by her husband in the marriage lead her into an inevitable situation whereby she was confronted with a potential act of infidelity with another man.
This experience is wonderfully articulated by her reiterating the summation of the Holy Sacrament of marriage. She explains people who do not understand the full Christian implications of marriage have a propensity to fail at it; and keeping other married Christian couples in their life is important to strengthen their will to ride out the highs and lows of life within the married relationship. Regularly attending Church is important, as faith bonds couples during hard times. She goes on to talk about the wealth of services offered by the Church, to educate, counsel and advise couples both prior to tying the knot as well as providing solutions to what often is seen as unrepairable differences. She states people cannot do everything by themselves, and with Christ everything is possible.
What I found to be also very enlightening is the glossary she included at the end of her book. She only defines two words: “Adversary means Satan. Saint means a Christian.” Knowing what people believe in their faith, it is easy to subscribe to the dichotomy of good vs. evil, or Jesus vs. the Devil. It all comes down to the thoughts in one’s mind – who controls you? What will help you? How to find Christ in your life? To Thine Be The Glory will lead you in the right direction by having the pleasure of getting to know Angela Martin, and read how she managed to find her glory through Christ.
