One thing the readers will admire in Philip Whitby’s Vault of Power: The Unknown Region is his sense of imagination. The author is a creative genius whose mind explores even the impossible. The characters in the book were extraordinary, the events incredible and the writing style remarkable. The slow start in the book only made the reading more fun and entertaining as the chapters went by. As a reader, one can imagine living in a world where magic is the norm. Everything has advanced as a consequence of war, and even more rousing, sorcery. Philip Whitby toys with the reader’s emotions, introducing somber stories which bring dull moods and happy moments that are victorious.
Even with a slight bumpy journey at times, the reader is assured of a great tale that has lessons and eye-opening moments. A terrible civil war happened across the Realm. A section of magicians had to go to a place that was unknown among other things. You can imagine how the journey would be for any of the mages as this Unknown place was mysterious in a way only a handful of those who visited had managed to return. Emma Knight was one of the key mages who was to visit the Unknown. I enjoyed how the author created Emma Knight as she was a girl who was extraordinary in her unique ways. Emma always thought ahead and was very different from the rest. She wanted to get away from the gloomy home she lived in. She wanted to see the world, but she had been locked out.
Following the magicians as they crossed over the border of their Realm was both exciting and frightening. The paths they used were hostile and unfavorable. It happened that to finish their mission, the mages had to forge a friendship and collaborate with the natives. Think of a world where the environment is hostile for you to live in, and you have to rely on other people who are different from you. I enjoyed the concept of having a vault of power. This vault has the hope the mages needed. It was a basis of rampant mystic prospective. Philip Whitby is excellent at creating horror stories which leave you with a chill running down your spine. The suspense is magical.
Starting with the first chapter gives you the urge to read more as you feel like the fate that awaits the mages is the same that awaits you. I virtually traveled with the characters in the awe-inspiring landscapes. I recommend the Vault of Power: The Unknown Region to readers who like chilling stories which involve supernatural powers and extraordinary beings. I enjoyed reading about the organization of mages and their society, and how things such as the StormLine were significant in their lives.
