Viglets- Time, Infinity, Eternity’by Viggo P. Hansen is a humorous and introspective non-fiction book. This book aims to answer the age-old question: What is time? It is the third installment in the Viglets series, and the entire series focuses on different aspects of modern human life, narrowing down on the effects of technology. The third book, in particular, comments on the idea of time and its value in the contemporary world. Interestingly, the series urges the readers to express their feelings in small couplets. These couplets are peculiar and do not adhere to grammatical rules; the author calls them Viglets.
In the book, the author focuses mainly on the abstract concept of time and the ideas associated with it. The book guides the reader to reflect on the traditional beliefs related to the same, the primary of them being: What is time? Does it exist? What is its value in the modern world? The book consists of chapters that touch upon separate elements of time; from the topic of time, it bleeds into infinity and then to eternity. The book plays with the relationship between these three. The writing in the book is more philosophical than scientific, and it aims to question the modern value of time. According to the author, time is now a competition, not a concept. We see people rushing to catch time every day. In today’s world, time has constricted humankind rather than helping them.
The book includes many Viglets from the author; and provides space for the readers to create their own. It allows the reader to connect to their philosophical side through these Viglets. This book also has sub-themes of faith and history, which makes it an intriguing experience. The interactive exercises in the book make the reader pause and reflect on the meaning of time, eternity, and infinity. Hansen’s aim for this book is ambitious, and his ideas are very intriguing.
Viglets- Time, Infinity, Eternity is a quick, thought-provoking read. I will recommend this to readers who are beginners to non-fiction and philosophy. Viglets – Time, Infinity, Eternity is perfect for readers who like grave ideas presented to them, dipped in the sauce of humor.
