Simply incredible writing and storytelling; I could not put this book down. Author Nina Lisicar’s book What Happened at Lake Tallulah ? is better than any popular romance / adventure trilogy on the bookshelves. Her talent makes this page-turner a joy to read – even the parts with the aliens which typically scare me to no end. As the love story between Byron and Margeux unfold suspensefully, I found myself cheering the two of them on as they continued to bump into each other throughout the book. Though their first date ends in a strange occurrence – Nina Lisicar set up a beautifully romantic scene between two young lovers.
As the events unfold throughout the book – not one of them is predictable. I didn’t find myself groaning “of course” as I normally do reading romance novels. This book is more than a romance novel – it contains elements of a drama, fantasy, thriller, and even a surprisingly tragic ending (that doesn’t involve the death of one of the lovers thankfully!)
I would love to see more from Lisicar or even a sequel to this book. I hope this book gets into the hands of many so it can be enjoyed for the true masterpiece that it is.
While the love story is the primary aspect of the book, Lisicar includes several other stories and they unfold together as the romance culminates. All the characters and their stories eventually reach a point where they see that their paths have been crossing for years. It is purely magical – especially when the reader can pick up hints and clues along the way.
Though there are several characters, each one adds to the story, rather than unnecessarily over-complicating the plot. The characters are lovable and as they grow closer together due to the circumstances of the tumultuous plot, they become perfect for one another without the author following cliché character tropes. There is nothing cliché about this book, it feels very real and even relatable even with the fantastic elements.
What Happened at Lake Tallulah? is a wonderful read for any lovers of romance novels or those interested in extraterrestrial fantasy. There is a great deal of historical detail and accuracy in the book. Not only does the author showcase her writing talents, it is clear how much thought, love, and research went into this book. She appears an expert on every topic found in the book from swimming to culinary arts to aliens.
I hope to see more from Nina Lisicar in the future, and cannot wait to devour another one of her books.
