At one point or another in every person’s life, there comes a time in which we seek guidance. Life can be complicated and messy, and the need to find some sort of help or guiding hand which leads us to the answers making life easier, or better able to be handled is constantly on people’s minds. For some, that guidance comes from counselors and teachers at a young age, while for others, mentors will come along in our careers to help shape our path for us.
For many however, that guidance comes from their spiritual leaders, and in author Phyllis Ames-Bey’s What the Three as One Revealed to Me: A Spiritual Journey, the author finds guidance through her faith and her religious mentor. Through a series of essays, the author expresses the lessons learned through her spiritual journey, and the impact her Christian faith has had on her life, especially in terms of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit acting in tandem as one entity in her life.
The author managed to craft a truly original and personal collection of essays capturing the emotional and spiritual journey she underwent in her life. Delving into personal experiences and growth that she lived through in her life, the passages found in this book not only feel personal but relatable to issues and struggles which we all face in life. The balance the author found between the personal memories and feelings she experienced in life with biblical passages and studies which came from developing her relationship with her faith.
This is the perfect book for those who enjoy non-fiction storytelling, especially those which focus on essays written by the author and subject matter that involves religion, specifically Christian faith. The attention to detail and passion for which the author writes on this topic is greatly felt in the context of this book, and the fast pacing of the essays overall allows the readers not only to dive deeper into the author’s themes and heart, but will leave a book people could easily return to time and time again in the future.
