Reading “Why Americans Are Fat and Sick” is a huge eye-opening experience in a small, easy-to-read package that should be a must read for everyone. Ahbonbon introduces readers to the many diverse hidden toxins and their often-drastic effects on our bodies and our health. It also offers solutions to readers on ways to avoid consumption of these toxins and live a happy and healthy life.Over the past few years, we have all probably heard background noise about toxins in our food. If you are like me, you have not really taken the time to find out more about toxins, perhaps maybe even out of fear. I would recall vaguely that trans fat and GMO were bad, but I definitely could not tell you why. After reading this book, I am not only aware of the dangers that can be found in foods and consumer products but am actively seeking ways to change my eating habits and products that I buy and use.
Pesticides in our produce, arsenic fed to chickens for color pigmentation, mercury in our fish, and arsenic in rice are enough to overwhelm any reader. It might make you wonder what you can actually eat. Though the guide teaches us of the dangers of these toxins, it is not written in a doomsday type style. While it educates you, it does not go out of its way to use scare tactics. In fact, there are healthy options and recipes included with most chapters to show you easy ways of changing your patterns and eating behaviors.
With the simple chapter structure, this guide walks the reader through different types of toxins and their effects in a logical, well-thought-out way. Complex subject matter is presented to the reader in a way that is as easy to digest as the food we eat. I believe the simplicity of this book is one of its greatest assets and was a wise decision by the author. This is a book that would be beneficial for anyone to take the time to read. There is no greater tool in today’s society than being well informed. This book cannot force you to make changes to your diet. However, it certainly enables an expert understanding of the healthier options that exist, which makes all the difference.
“Why Americans Are Fat and Sick” is a very unique book: beautiful, informative, educational, and vital for helping fight the obesity and cancer crisis in America.
