Author and preacher M.J. Tiry gives scope to aspects of the Holy Bible that can logically and mystically connect to the lives of ordinary people. He begins with the importance of questioning, something which affected him when as a young man pursuing a successful career in engineering, he felt as if his life “was still lacking something.” A work colleague introduced him to the idea of a faith-based reality that prompted Tiry to question and explore four vital issues: the origin of the Universe; the existence of God in a world filled with evil; God’s purpose for mankind; and the possibility of life beyond the grave.
In this wide-ranging treatise, Tiry sets forth answers based on scriptural truth deftly arrayed in a rational manner. Among the many materials presented are the works of such thinkers as Soren Kierkegaard, Sigmund Freud, and John Maynard Keynes. A large portion of the book is devoted to specific dilemmas faced by Americans in this era, urging readers to live a God-centered life – the only real life as Tiry sees it – which can include protecting one’s right to vote, raising one’s children to respect authority, supporting one’s local church, and trying always to manifest God’s word in one’s daily life.
As would be expected, Tiry’s work is weighted with many quotations from the Holy Bible, and explanations of what that book means for his readers as well should mean for all mankind. It is written with the hope that the information offered will take readers farther into their own heartfelt need to discover deeper meaning and purpose in life while facing and overcoming its many challenges.
Tiry’s experience clearly qualifies him for the composition of this thorough, thoughtful array of biblical understanding. As well as following a profession in engineering which led him to a finer grasp of the physical and metaphysical aspects of creation, he has been a minister active in church life, prison counseling, and community leadership.
You and Your Creator: A Study in God’s Purpose for Man provides satisfying answers to a myriad of questions, which may prompt a readership both of fellow believers and of those skeptical yet curious about the parameters of Christian life. It would be ideal as well providing focus for group workshops, and of course, individual contemplation.
